Keeping The Inside of Your Car Clean
Keeping your car clean isn’t easy.
Caring for the exterior isn’t too bad – at very least, you can always find time after a fill-up to sluice off the worst of the yuck. The interior, however, tends to quickly fill with bits of paper, cans, plastic bottles, gum wrappers, and donut crumbs. And once the inside of the car starts to get messy, cleaning it becomes such a daunting job that many of us just never bother. It gets so bad that when a group of coworkers head out for lunch, we hide in the background, hoping that someone else will volunteer to drive so nobody has to see the mess that’s in our car. Here are some things you can do to get it clean and keep it that way:
- If you can at all avoid it, don’t eat in your car.
No matter how neat you try to be, eating behind the wheel will make a mess of your upholstery. And it will fill your car with clamshell boxes, drink cups, and other trash. - Every time you stop for gas, empty the trash out of your car.
It only takes a minute, and it will make a big difference. Once the mess in your car reaches a certain point, you will give up. Never let it reach critical mass. - If you put it in the hatch or trunk today, remove it today.
Not only will it make your car more inhabitable, it will save you money in fuel. Look in the trunk. If you’re a pack rat, you will likely find 50+ pounds of things you really don’t need in your car. Stop treating it like a rolling garden shed. Really think you need a lawn chair? Dull skates? All those empties waiting to be returned? Get ‘em out!
